From Year 9 onwards St Dunstan’s students have to make a range of choices that will govern their options for higher education and future careers. We appreciate the importance of these decisions and offer support in every way possible.

A Year 10 careers programme is given to the students through the PSHE carousel, focusing on Selling Yourself – CV’s and applications. By the end of the unit, each student will have a working CV that they can regularly update and review.

'The College provides excellent careers advice and preparation for higher education'. 2011 Independent Schools Inspectorate report

Year 10 students not involved in D of E take part in the Take our Child to Work Day in order to get some experience of a work-based environment.

A Careers Convention is arranged for all Year 11 and Sixth Form students in the Michaelmas Term.  Approximately 50 professionals give advice and guidance about their specialist field. A database of delegates is compiled and reviewed by the Head of Careers. New contacts are added, where possible, from contact with parents, Old Dunstonians or interested individuals. The aim is to get the widest cross-section of different career areas and the broadest range of advice to reflect the interests of the students.

Work Experience takes place on a voluntary basis for Year 11 students in the Michaelmas Half Term or after summer examinations. Information is presented at the end of Year 10 and students return a form to the Head of Careers. Employers are sent a relevant Health, Safety and Insurance questionnaire that is assessed upon its return.
