Standford Tuck History Society

Visit by Dr Emma Hanna to talk to the Society about 'The History of Television'

The Stanford Tuck History Society held its first meeting of the year a couple of weeks ago.  We were lucky enough to welcome Dr. Emma Hanna, an author, and senior lecturer from Greenwich University to the College.  She came in to talk about 'The History of Television' which is based on the book she has recently published.  Her talk gave a fascinating insight into the massive world of television particularly about how TV came to be as popular as it is today.  Dr Hanna showed clips of films which covered events such as WW1 and WW2, as well as Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation and explained the ways in which historical events have been interpreted by film producers.  There was a fantastic turn out of students attending the talk and everyone looked like they enjoyed it whilst sitting amongst friends and eating lots of delicious cake.

On behalf of the History Society, I would like to say a big thank you to all of the students for coming to this event and supporting us, and a special thanks to Dr. Hannah for coming and delivering such a thought provoking talk.  I look forward to seeing everyone at the next Society meeting next half term.
