Come and Sing

On Saturday last a scratch choir of 60 staff, students, parents and friends gathered at the beautiful church of St Sepulchre-without-Newgate in the city for St Dunstan's first ever Come and Sing workshop.

The choir were accompanied by the St Dunstan's Sinfonietta - a professional chamber orchestra brought together for the workshop - as they tackled the glorious Fauré Requiem under the direction of Mr Wood.

After just two and a half hour's rehearsal the choir performed to an audience of supporters. The standard of the singing was excellent, the choir really putting across the understated power of Fauré's masterpiece.

There were outstanding performances from Saskia Horton (solo violin) and Verity de Cala (soprano) whose Pie Jesu - Verity's first major solo at St Dunstan's - showed stunning musicality.

The choir were sustained throughout the afternoon by superb tea and cake supplied by the Family Society and judging by the reaction of participants and audience this wonderful afternoon of music-making will be the first of many.
