Music and performance at St Dunstan’s Junior School is nothing short of exceptional.

Specialist teaching begins weekly from Nursery, and every child is given the chance to explore their musical talents with taster sessions in strings during Pre-Prep and woodwind in Prep. Our provision is enriched by the breadth of our through-school structure, giving Junior pupils access to an extraordinary 30-40 visiting music specialists offering tuition in 20 different instruments and music production. On average between 200-250 individual instrumental lessons take place in our Junior School weekly, with several pupils choosing to learn more than one instrument.

THE THRILL OF LIVE PERFORMANCE

With around 100 pupils in Prep Choir, 50 in Pre-Prep Choir, 20 in Strings, 20 in Wind Band and 15 rocking out in our ever-popular Rock Band, performance is at the heart of our music culture, and our pupils take to some of the most iconic stages in London. From Cadogan Hall and St Martin-in-the-Fields to Southwark Cathedral, the Broadway Theatre, and Smith Square in Westminster, our musicians have shone in some of the capital’s most prestigious venues. We are soon to perform at the Royal Festival Hall this December, a testament to the calibre and ambition of our music programme.

Whether your child is destined for ABRSM exams (with 79% passing with distinction and merit in 2024-2025) or simply wanting to find their voice in a choir, our music department ensures every child has the chance to discover their musical self and feel part of something truly extraordinary.
