At St Dunstan’s Junior School, we are fortunate to have a well-resourced and beautiful Woodland Classroom, designed to support our Forest School curriculum and led by our highly trained staff.

Regular sessions transport pupils from the city into the flow of country life, encouraging them to see the world, and themselves, differently.

Our child-centred, inspirational curriculum offers a breadth of experiences that build confidence through hands-on, memorable moments. Pupils take risks, challenge themselves in new ways, and explore structured play within a safe, natural setting.

In the Woodland Classroom, children develop independence, resilience and co-operation through projects such as shelter building, minibeast hunts and pond exploration. They also learn mindfulness techniques outdoors, being present in the moment, while engaging with the changing seasons and deepening their knowledge of the natural world.

The curriculum is shaped by the interests of the pupils themselves. Themes grow from their conversations and play, with children delighting in learning Forest School skills such as whittling, fire-building and nature art. Physical development is also enhanced through log obstacle courses and collaborative activities that involve moving around freely and constructing with natural materials.

Above all, our Woodland Classroom fosters a true sense of community. Stories are told, songs are shared, and pupils discover the joy of learning together, all within a beautiful and natural environment. At St Dunstan’s, this space exemplifies our commitment to Excellence. Differently. - A progressive approach where curiosity, creativity and character grow side by side with academic achievement.
