To celebrate World Book Day, Years 7 and 8 were treated to an inspiring visit from award-winning author Candy Gourlay.

Candy gave the students a fascinating talk all about her life and journey to becoming a published author, with a particular focus on her books 'Bone Talk' and its sequel 'Wild Song'.

She outlined her life in the Philippines, the Marcos dictatorship, and her time as a journalist for the opposition press during the 1986 revolution. She also discussed her transition to becoming an author, and the perseverance it took to land a book deal after facing many rejections - a powerful message to students to never give up on your dream.

Candy finished off her time at the school with a book signing in the library, a fantastic opportunity for students to ask her questions about her work.
