On Ascension Day, Thursday 14th May, a group of eight Year 7 students took part in the annual ‘Beating the Bounds’ ceremony at All Hallows by the Tower Church.

‘Beating the Bounds’ is a medieval custom in which parishes physically mark their boundaries by beating them with sticks.

Each year students from St Dunstan’s ‘beat’ the bounds of All Hallows parish, the site of the original St Dunstan’s school in the City of London.

Throughout the beating procession, prayers are read and blessings made for the parishioners and all those that live and work in the parish community.

With modern maps, there’s no geographical need to ‘beat’ the bounds any more, but it continues to be a proud St Dunstan’s tradition.
