Congratulations to Year 12 student Indiana Garton-Jones, whose success in the recent ballot means that he has been elected to sit on the Lewisham Young Mayor’s Cabinet.

Indiana received over 700 votes from young people across the borough, placing fifth overall in the contest.

Indiana’s key priorities are around promoting environmental issues and giving young people a greater voice in the running of the borough through a head student council, bringing together students from schools across Lewisham to share their views.

Indy said: “I ran because I’m very passionate about young people’s opinions.”

“I think we matter and we should be allowed to have a say in what happens.”

Run by Lewisham Council, the Young Mayor programme offers young people a unique voice in the running of our borough, and a chance for all secondary school students to participate in democratic elections, building their confidence in engaging with politics.
