During the Exeat break, our Sports Department hosted their annual Football and Hockey Tour to Barcelona.
The trip was a huge success with 67 pupils attending including three boys’ football teams and two girls’ hockey teams.
Following a flight from Gatwick, the students’ first day included a visit to the town centre, close to Castelldefels beach, and then onto a self-led training session.
The second day kicked off with an exciting visit to a trampoline and high ropes centre, which all enjoyed. Following this, the girls then had the opportunity to go and watch the Spanish Men's Olympic Hockey Squad training and have a Q&A with Max Caldas (Head Coach) after the session, before preparing for their own fixtures vs FC Barcelona's Hockey teams in the evening, in which Year 8 won 1-0, and Year 9 drew 1-1. Meanwhile, the Boys played vs CF 25 Setembre and won, drew and lost respectively.
During the third day, the group started with a Camp Nou tour and time at the Barce Megastore. Pupils and staff then travelled to the FC Barcelona Joan Gamper Training Grounds to take part in FC Barcelona Pro Coaching Sessions. The group then had the opportunity to watch the Barce U18s vs Bayern Munich U18s (which mirrored the Champions League Draw) at the Joan Cruyff stadium, before heading back to the hotel for some rest.
For the penultimate day, the students continued with self-led training before taking part in a second round of fixtures, with the boys competing against Martorell FC, and the girls against Atletic Terressa.
As the trip came to a close, the visiting group spent the final day with a sunrise walk on the beach before checking out and heading to the Olympic Museum, view points at Montjuic and getting lunch at the historic Bull Ring which is now a mall, before heading to El Prat Barcelona Airport to return to London.
