Year 8 Digital Compositing in Computing Class

This week in Computing, as part of a project on Digital Artwork, Year 8 have been learning about ‘Digital Compositing’. This is the practice of putting different images together into layers to create new images. The students learned how movie studios use compositing in special effects, such as using ‘green screens’ behind presenters to make adding new backgrounds easier. 

They then used an online graphics program – PIXLR – to select images, remove their old background, and collage them together into new images. The students were tasked with creating a postcard as an example project, and were encouraged to use their imaginations. 

To facilitate home learning as best as possible, the students all used free online tools, so the software could be accessed equally and only required a computer.
