The Art Department at St Dunstan’s Senior School is vibrant, creative, and full of individuality.

Our ambitious and diverse curriculum prepares, supports, and inspires students to evolve as both artists and young people.

We believe every student has the power to make their mark, and our role is to nurture their originality, encourage experimentation, and give them the confidence to share their creative voice.

A Contemporary, Diverse Art Curriculum

From Key Stage 3 through to A Level, our art curriculum combines traditional skills with contemporary practice. Students explore a wide range of disciplines — from ceramics and sculpture to performance art and mixed media — while developing the technical expertise to bring their ideas to life. Lessons are enriched with critical discussion, gallery visits, and artist workshops, ensuring students engage with current artistic debates and global perspectives.

Our curriculum also reflects the world beyond the classroom. We celebrate events such as Black History Month and International Women’s Day, encouraging students to use art as a lens through which to explore society, culture, and identity.

Creative Spaces and Teaching Excellence

Our dedicated art studios provide a dynamic environment where students are supported by passionate teachers and specialist staff. The focus is on independence, risk-taking, and freedom of expression, giving each student the tools and confidence to produce work that is both personal and meaningful.

Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

Creativity at St Dunstan’s doesn’t stop at the studio door. Through our Forder co-curricular programme, students take part in a wide range of creative clubs, including sculpture, art history, and curating. Regular exhibitions showcase their talent, with the academic year culminating in the St Dunstan’s Festival — a high-profile platform for students to share their work, ideas, and achievements with the wider community.

Inspiring Confidence for the Future

Our aim is for every student to leave the Art Department with more than artistic skill: we want them to have the confidence, independence, and creative resilience that will propel them to success — both academically and personally.

Lessons are engaging, purposefully paced, well-planned and adopt an effective range of teaching strategies, built on the teachers’ deep understanding of their pupils and their individual needs.
